Today Utkala Janani recalls her most precious invention
ever, birth of Odisara Baraputra Sir Biju Patnaik, the most eminent
Orissa Ratna, architect of modern Orissa. This precious invention of
Orissa soil later on invented Modern Orissa. The mortal becomes
immortal for the undying legacy of this illustrious son of Utkal
Janani and he still lives in renewed vigor in the hearts of millions
who experience modernized Orissa.
Today on the 94th birth anniversary of Odisa ra Baraputra
Sir Biju patnaik and also on the day of 10 successful year of
governance of his son honorable Sri Naveen Patnaik, Utkala Janai
weeps with remembrance.
A Maverick man with Lion guts
:
• At his youth as a pilot he displayed exemplary extreme tactical
act of courage by conducting a last minute rescue raid, airlifting
the helpless revolutionary leaders of Indonesia from the claws of
Dutch air Defense. He was rightly honored by the Indonesian
Government with the highest citizen award of that country "Bhumiputra".
• During Jammu & Kasmir operation in 1947 Biju patnaik as air
transport pilot of Indian Air force infuriated yet committed dared
to land the first platoon of troops at Srinagar Airport on 27th
October, 1947 amidst surrounding stern attack by Pakistani raiders.
Indian air force ever appreciates Biju sir for this gallantry act.
• This lion man had let the world know his high spirited courage
right from his tender childhood. During childhood once he broke the
police cordon to touch an aero plane. This true passion driven
personality braved him to form Kalinga airlines ( The only airliner
by any Odia ever ) with a cavalry of 13 Dakota planes flying across
the globe. He was the Managing Proprietor & Chief Pilot of Kalinga
airlines.
• Orissa is proud of Biju Patnaik for his endeavour to organize a
voyage to the Indonesian island of Bali to commemorate the glorious
sea- fare tradition of the people of Kalinga.
• At youth he could swim across the river Mahanadi in one spate,
during his studies at Ravenshaw College he undertook an adventurous
journey by bicycle from Cuttack to Peshwar, a distance of 4500
miles, As a football player, he always dominated the playground, As
a leader no one could dare stand straight in front of him. This
extraordinary personality was none other than his highness Sri.

• In 1951 he established the international Kalinga Prize for
popularization of Science and Technology among the people and
entrusted the responsibility to the UNESCO.
