Jai
Jagannath,
( Composed by Siba
Ram Baral )
During childhood we all would have heard about
"Cleanliness is next to Godliness".
Ever been to Puri Jagannath Temple ? Of course most of us for scores
of times. This century old structure is the back bone of our Oriya
civilization, emblem of our tradition and pictogram of our cultural
heritage. It's the icon of identity for all Oriyans across the
world. But the alarming concern here is the cleanliness of the
premises. Surprisingly the truth is hygiene and sanity is not a part
of their dictionary. Pilgrims are mostly seen around with curled eye
brows and squeezed raised nose.
Let's ignore the rest and just focus on "Anand Bazar"( The temple
kitchen and food distribution area at Puri is reputed to be the
largest kitchen in the world, with 400 cooks working around 200
hearths to feed over 10,000 people each day ). During rainy season
it attains it's peak of contamination and sludge. This all are known
to the temple administration, district magistrate and even to the
government. But all close their eyes and come up with excuses. It's
ultimately the greatness and simplicity of our poor GOD Lord
Jagannath, that he still finds crores of devotees at least once a
year. GOD bless our god.
Not that this is an incurable flaw. People responsible for this
should wake up and look into. Bhitara-Chhu Mohapatra looks after the
sanctity of the Bhog being offered to the deities and also to the
cleanliness of the temple premises. Taluchha Mohapatra likewise
looks after the cleanliness of the kitchen. They need to be little
more responsible, attentive and productive towards their duties. At
last it's on to the shoulders of the following people. Let's raise
this to any or all of the following ….
