Tata, the largest professionally ethical organization with a candid approach towards common man’s sentiments has now been dragged into The great Indian Tata Turtle controversy. This had not only disturbed the smooth development of Dhamara Port project, but also this future gateway of prosperous Orissa was uncertain on it’s own future. The truth was lying with the black box secrets of information that was far from common man. Catering to the largest mineral heartland of India, this Rs. 74.6 billion costly 600 acre structure is armed with 15 berths on an 18 Km long channel to handle smooth marine transportation of 83 million tones of Coal, Iron Ore, Minerals, Finished goods, Petroleum, Aluminum and other container Cargos.

• Dharma is nearest to deep sea. This easies large cargo vessels to commute.
• Sea is Calm. Ideal for Port construction. This determines cost of break water and Core structure.

Impact on Environment and vicinity ( Truth unwrapped ):

• Olive Reedley Turtles comes from the coasts of Australia in multimillions every winter to turtle nesting grounds at Mahipura, Gahirimatha and Rushikulya river mounts, a place called as Aribada which is 15 km. point to point and 30 Km. on the sea path from the port site. Although there is no way this port project can impact them, but still the port trust have ensured zero impact to environment from dredging and illumination by installing Dark sky friendly lightening system
• This port is far from civilian areas on the sea shore. Out of 74 villages in the vicinity only 2 villages will be displaced to get land for 62 KM of Rail connectivity from Coastal main line till the port.
• Dhamra port is at a safe distance from ITR, Chandipur, Wheeler’s Ireland and also bears a marine friendly treaty with DRDO and ISRO.
• The port will have an efficient dust suppression system for a clean environment.

The port limits of Dhamra were officially notified as far back as 1930. After independence, Dhamra continued to be recognized as a minor port of Orissa. The existing port was identified by the Government of Orissa for development into a modern deep port based on a pre-feasibility study done by RITES.
