Mythological Significance Maha Bishuba Pana Sankranti :

Maha Vishuba Sankranti is also known as Mesha Sankranthi, Chhatua Sankranti or Pana Sankranti in Orissa. This marks the beginning of rainy season and of the cultivation cycle. On this particular day a small bottom holed pot filled with 'pana' or sweet drink is hung on a basil (Tulsi) plant. the water which falls from the pot represents rain. As a specialty of the day, the flour of horse gram (chhatua) is also offered to Devi Tulsi. According to tradition when 'Bhishma', the grandfather of 'Kurus' or 'Kauravas' and the 'Pandavas' lay on the bed of arrows ('Shara Sajya') he felt thirsty and there was no water nearby in the ravaged battle-field of 'Kurukshetra'. Then 'Arjuna' with his powerful bow thrusted an arrow deep into the ground and water immediately shooted out in a stream to quench the thirst of the dying warrior. Out of contentment and compassion Bhishma conferred to 'Yudhisthira', " people also offer cold water to thirsty people on this day

Hanuman Jayanti:

On behalf of Hanuman Jayanti, Team Nilachakra presents few unknown interesting facts about Lord Hanuman :

• After the great war of Ramayana, when Lord Rama departed to his heavenly abode, Hanuman, preferred to remain on earth in the form of monkeys as long as Rama's name was venerated by people. This is the reason why monkeys are considered to be Chiranjeevi ( the one who lives for ever ), another incarnations of Lord Hanuman.

• Lord Hanuman is the only linkage by which the greatest two epics Ramayana and Mahabharata can be linked. In Mahabharata During the Pandavas' exile, he appears disguised as a weak and aged monkey to Bhima in order to subdue his arrogance. Bhima enters a field where Hanuman is lying with his tail blocking the way. Bhima, unaware of his identity, tells him to remove it. In return, Hanuman tells him to remove it himself. Bhima tries this, but is unable to do it despite his great strength and therefore inquires Hanuman's identity, which is then revealed. Upon Bhima's request, Hanuman is also said to have enlarged himself and shown him the same size in which he had crossed the sea to go to Lanka, searching for Sita.

• During the great battle of Kurukshetra, Arjuna entered the battlefield with a flag displaying Hanuman on his chariot. Hanumanji in the flag signifies sense control and mind control that gives victory to the higher nature over the lower nature. The incident that led to this was an earlier encounter between Hanuman and Arjuna, wherein as an act of penitence, Hanuman decided to help Arjuna by stabilizing and strengthening his chariot during the imminent great battle.

Jai Hanuman... Jai Sri Ram.... Jai Jagannath.
