Margasira Masa Gurubara Brata

Jaya Jagannath,

The Most lucrative ritual for Women of Orissa, coming up next is Manabasa Gurubara Brata. Tomorrow on every Thursday in the Oriya month of Margasira, Goddess Lakshmi will be worshiped with utmost devotion. Odia women will be Waking up early morning, cleaning the house, decorating the entrance with Rangoli chita and then performing Maha Laxmi Puja with great devotion and sincerety.

Mana, the bamboo cane woven pot used during olden days as a unit for measuring paddy is filled up to the brink with freshly harvested white colored paddy (Sukla Dhana), and then chanting and singing of Mahalakshmi Purana along with puja follows. A bunch of paddy being canned is also kept erect and is decorated with new clothes, ornaments and flowers. This represents Lord DhanaLaxmi, an icon of prosperity
