Jaya Jagannath,
(
A
gentle reminder
: With a grand conclusion of Rath Yatra, today the deities are going
to be attired in new glittering golden costumes, a form of the
deities known as Suna Vesa, the
golden attire. It is quite auspicious and good fortune to donate
even a small piece of golden ornament to the Lord. Devotees who
gifts even a tiny ornament to the Lord on this divine day, becomes
the dearest of all devotees to Lord Jagannath and thus thru out life
receives unique blessings )
Orissa Cultural Association, Bangalore, is organizing a unique Odissi Evening at Chowdiah Memorial Hall, Bangalore on 4th July '09
at 7pm. For the first time in Bangalore, there will be a program
showcasing both Odissi music as well as Odissi dance.
The highlight of the evening will be the dance recital by Sujata
Mohapatra, the unquestioned reigning diva of Odissi dance today. The
daughter-in-law and a close disciple of Late Guru Kelu Charan
Mohaptra, Sujata is among the most loved Odissi performers across
the world today admired for the way she combines technical finesse
with passionate personal expressions. Along with a full team of live
musicians, accompanying her on stage will be Guru Ratikanat
Mohapatra, her husband, accompanying her on the pakhwaj and
choreographing the performance.
Odissi music has its own distinctive appeal, characterized by its
mellifluousness and sensuality. Many consider it as the third stream
of Indian classical music. along with Hindustani and Carnatic forms.
Odissi songs are usually based on the Radha - Krishna love episodes
and the mischievous escapades of the child Krishna. Bijay Jena, the
head of Odissi Vocal at Utkal Sangeet Mahavidyalaya and Nazia Alam,
who has recently released a 5-CD set of complete Gitagovinda will
perform in the music segment showcasing the best of Odissi music.
The duo will sing from the works of Jayadeva as well as other master
poets of Odissi such as Upendra Bhanja and Gopalkrushna Das.
