Jaya
Jagannath,
( Responding to :
Distinctive appearance of Lord Jagannath. )
What a topic. I must express on it. On your subject I would like to
add my personal experience on his distinctive appearance.
In sept 2002, when NALCO was on the verge of privatisation after
Balco sell, one fine early morning at around 4 AM suddenly i woke up
having seen Lord Jagannath jee calling me in my nick name "Lalu,
kana soechhu Nalco bikree hoijiba para. Jaa lagijaa au bandh karidey."/
" Lalu what you are sleeping. go and stop the Nalco privatisation".
I was shocked and astonished. Recalled it many a time and found a
clear message to me. I was then working as Chief Manager ( elect) at
Corporate office in Bhubaneswar and hardly was involved in any
political activities through the Officer's association. By then only
workers at Angul and Damanjodi site were shouting against
privatization and some Left trade unions were supporting the cause.
Corporate officer's or workers were no way involved.
I went to office at 9.30 am and called on secy off assn shri BK
Samal. He expressed helplessness due to timid character of Existing
president and other officers but went along with me to the President
of recognized corporate worker's union shri Niranjan sahu. He agreed
to call a gate meeting at 1 PM lunch time and we all assembled (
Full house). All officers and unions totaling 400 joined the gate
meeting. I was called upon to address and so i did against the
privatization process. All the people applauded and took a vow to
fight the Center's decision to privatize Nalco. The movement took a
wild turn as all the media covered our statement of corporate office
in state and National channel like ETV / Star TV/ AajTak etc. The
Site workers and officers became more jubilant and stirred up their
activities in full swing. The workers and officers made me President
of Officer's association and also Chairman of Nalco movement
consisting of 3 off assn and 23 worker's union.
Every body was drawing strength from me where as i was drawing
strength from Lord jagannath Jee because he has told me to fight and
it is His responsibility to support and guide me in His mission. I
remember during the movement Star TV representative Mr Sampad
mohapatra asked me " what negotiation you are going to make for the
workers as the privatization of Nalco is eminent by Arun shouri, the
Disinvestment Minister GOI. Out of the blue , I replied, I don’t
believe Nalco can be privatized hence i have no package to discuss.
I changed the rule of strike. No strike in Plant. Took all leaders
in a Bus and moved around Orissa to garner support for Nalco
Movement. But still we became weak and there was no sign of our
success. In 2003 Rath Jatra i along with my team went to Puri and
broke coconut in all The Rath’s and asked for His blessing. To our
surprise we returned to Bhubaneswar to find Minister Mines Mr Vaisya
stating possibilty of stoppage of Nalco privatization. And on July
15th Prime minister Mr Bajpayee flew down to Bhubaneswar to announce
stoppage of Nalco privatization.
This is a distinctive personal appearance of Lord Jagannath jee, i
can ever forget.
The next thing is equally interesting. our workers and officers have
earlier donated one day salary under the leadership of then
GM(Personal) Nalco, Angul Mr BN Swain to renovate ' Ananda Bazar" of
Lord Jagannath temple at PURI. But in 2002 the then Executive
Director did not accept the one day salary donation citing it's not
as per the Official norm to collect and disburse to a Temple. After
success of Nalco privatization i took up the case and told
management that NALCO must contribute to the renovation of Ananda
Bazar, Lord Jagannath Temple as it's a place where many people take
food and it's our natural duty to keep it more hygienic from public
utility point of view. Many positive and negative discussion took
place but finally our acting CMD Mr G Uppadhaya called me and said
in his last working day on 31st Jan 2005 that look Lalit ; I can not
make DPC but I am sanctioning you proposal for Ananda Bazar. Raja of
Puri temple was surprised to note sanction of Rs 2 Crore. Although I
was fighing for it and lobbying with Director Finance Mr Chatwal &
GM administrator Mr Satpathy but never thought it to come so easy
and that’s to company to bear all expenses and no one day salary
donation from worker required. This is also a distinctive appearance
of Lord Jagannath Jee. The work is in progress and you may have a
look at it when you come to Puri.
Your posting encouraged me to write about my personal experience for
the benefit of your readers. You may post it for other's to know
Lord Jagannath Jee's grace for Orissa.
